This study aims to re-examine the narrative of Barak in Judges 4, which is often interpreted as portraying a figure who failed in faith. Such an interpretation creates tension with the canonical witness of Hebrews 11:32, where Barak is recognized as a hero of faith. Therefore, this research seeks to reconstruct the understanding of Barak's faith through a qualitative exegetical approach. The analysis is conducted through an examination of the historical and socio-cultural context of the Book of Judges, a narrative analysis of the text's structure, an intertextual comparison between Barak and Moses, and a lexical study of key Hebrew terms. The findings indicate that Barak's response does not reflect a lack of faith, but rather an expression of dependence on God's presence. The historical and socio-cultural analysis shows that God's action is at the center of the salvific work in the Book of Judges. The narrative analysis emphasizes God's role as the primary agent in Israel's victory. The intertextual analysis reveals a similar pattern in Barak's and Moses' responses to the need for God's presence. Meanwhile, the lexical analysis of tiparteka and makar indicates that the terms honor and hand over do not provide sufficient grounds for associating Barak’s response with doubt or a failure of faith. Consequently, faith in this narrative is not understood as heroic independence, but as a relational dependence on God. This study contributes by offering a renewed reading of Barak and expanding the understanding of faith in the Old Testament as theocentric dependence.
