Malachi 3:6–12 contains the prophetic call to “bring the whole tithe,” which, in this study, is understood not merely as a legal requirement but as a critical response to the socio-economic and spiritual crisis of the post-exilic period that threatened the continuity of the covenant community. Employing a historical-critical approach, this article analyzes the text within the social, economic, and religious context of post-exilic Judaism to uncover the theological meaning and social function of the tithe. The neglect of offerings not only reflects a decline in faith but also disrupts the continuity of worship in the Temple and the welfare of its ministers. God’s invitation to “test Me” affirms the promise of blessing and restoration accompanying the people’s faithfulness, while highlighting the tithe as a means of sustaining the covenant community
