Abstract

Vulnerable groups such as children, women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities often bear multidimensional post-disaster impacts encompassing physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects. This necessitates holistic recovery interventions. This study aims to analyze the role of the church's koinonia (fellowship) as an instrument for post-disaster trauma recovery among vulnerable groups, focusing on a case study of the GMIT Sion-Oeli’i congregation in East Nusa Tenggara. This study utilizes a descriptive qualitative method combined with theological and philosophical approaches. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews and the distribution of questionnaires to the affected congregation. The results indicate that the actualization of koinonia, manifested through spiritual support, communal prayer, and congregational support groups, has proven effective in reducing psychological anxiety levels and revitalizing the bonds of social solidarity among survivors. This study affirms that the church holds strategic potential in community-based crisis interventions. As a practical implication, this research recommends that churches design continuous support programs, such as trauma-specific pastoral counseling, spiritual healing retreats, and congregation-based social empowerment activities.
