Abstract

Denominational fragmentation, theological diversity, and limited cooperation among churches constitute significant challenges to the church’s witness in Indonesia. In this context, church unity should not be pursued merely through organizational integration or doctrinal uniformity, but should be grounded in a theological foundation rooted in the apostolic witness. This study aims to analyze 2 Corinthians 13:13 as a theological basis for developing the mission of church unity in Indonesia. The study employs a qualitative method using an exegetical-theological and contextual approach. The analysis focuses on the structure and theological meaning of Paul’s benediction, particularly the relationship between the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, and then relates these theological dimensions to the contemporary life of the church in Indonesia. The findings indicate that 2 Corinthians 13:13 provides a foundation for church unity rooted in the work of the Triune God. Church unity, therefore, should not be understood as denominational uniformity, but as a communion shaped by the grace of Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. This theological foundation has concrete missional implications through strengthening interdenominational fellowship, promoting cooperation in ministry and Christian witness, practicing love as an expression of ecclesial identity, and developing constructive relationships within a religiously pluralistic society. Thus, returning to the apostolic foundation of 2 Corinthians 13:13 can encourage churches in Indonesia to develop a model of unity grounded in Trinitarian faith, embodied in communal life, and directed toward the church’s witness in society.
