Abstract

The theological debate regarding Ephesians 4:11-16 often focuses on the validity of office gifts in the modern era but tends to underexplore the synergistic function of these five gifts as a unified whole. As a result, many churches adopt a partial leadership model that does not reflect the holistic leadership paradigm proposed by Paul, thereby hindering the maturity of the congregation. This study aims to formulate an integrative leadership model by exegetically analyzing the complementary roles and functions of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. Using an in-depth historical-grammatical exegesis of the Greek text, this research examines how each gift (domata) uniquely contributes to the equipping of the saints (pros ton katartismon). The analysis reveals that these five offices form an interdependent leadership ecosystem: apostles and prophets lay the doctrinal foundation, evangelists drive missionary expansion, while pastors and teachers ensure the spiritual formation and theological depth of the congregation. Their synergy results in holistic church growth that is doctrinally mature, communally strong, and quantitatively expansive. This study makes a significant contribution to ecclesiological discourse by offering a biblically grounded framework for collaborative leadership as an alternative to the dominant singular leadership models prevalent in contemporary church practice.
