There are many interpretations of 1 Peter 4:6, with some believing this verse teaches a second chance to receive the Gospel after death. This can lead a person to lose their priority on living a holy life and feel they have an excuse to sin. The purpose of this study is to understand the true meaning of the clause "and the gospel was preached also to the dead" in 1 Peter 4:6. This study uses the exegetical method. The results of the study state that the Gospel preached to the dead refers to those who died in ancient times, who had heard the Gospel and responded to it during their lifetime, but when Peter wrote these people were already dead. In conclusion, overall, Christian teaching does not support a second chance after death to receive the Gospel. The preaching of the Gospel must be done while a person is still alive. The primary purpose of the Gospel is to change the life of the person who receives it, and this change has a lasting impact that extends to eternity.
